CITY OF NANTICOKE​

Nanticoke, Pennsylvania officially became a city in 1926, which means 2026 marks our Grand 100th Anniversary as a City!
While Nanticoke's history stretches back much further as a township and a borough—deeply rooted in the grit of the anthracite coal mining boom—hitting that official "City" milestone a century ago was a massive badge of honor for the community.
 

Here is a quick look at what makes this centennial special:

•    A Century of Resilience: In 1926, Nanticoke was a bustling, energetic hub fueled by the coal industry and a diverse community of hardworking immigrants. Reaching 100 years as a city highlights a century of survival, adaptation, and deep-seated community pride long after the mines closed.
•    The Home of the Trojans & Trojanettes: For the last 100 years, generations of residents have grown up cheering for Greater Nanticoke Area sports, gathering at Patriot Park, and enjoying local staples (like incredible NEPA-style pizza and pierogies).
•    Honoring the Roots: A centennial is the perfect excuse for the community to , honor the families who built the town from the ground up, and look forward to the city's next chapter.​
